Medical and Halal Food Products add to Huge Industry in Thailand
Thailand’s enormous food products industry is serving up two specialty sectors with strong growth and investment potential: Medical and Halal food. With the well-earned nickname “Kitchen of the World,” the medical and halal food sectors will become increasingly important parts of Thailand’s bounteous food industry. And just as these two niche sectors are marking milestones, the food industry in general continues forward with new projects. With approximately 10,000 companies, the processed- food sector is a key driver of Thailand’s exports and food industry as a whole. To spur development of the medical food sector, the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) offers attractive incentives to investors. The Halal food sector is also expanding, on the strength of the abundant required materials and reliable standards control in the country. Thailand’s exports of Halal food should grow by at least 10% annually through 2014, experts predict. So far about 1,700 Thai suppliers have obtained halal certification, and the number will increase steadily. Foreign food producers can benefit from these developments and serve the growing Asian market by investing in Thailand and opening their regional facilities in the country. The BOI can assist free of charge. Please contact OCO Global the representative of BOI Benelux. www.ocoglobal.com. Mr Sieb Hoogstra, email sieb.hoogstra@ocoglobal.com
